A view of Russel from the viewpoint |
We took a walk up to the top of one of the hills. One lady was out in her yard pruning her grapes. She had little piles of oranges and grapefruit on her fence and told us to help ourselves. She had heavily laden trees as well as gorgeous flowers in full bloom.
We continued on up to the top, and as has become tradition, pulled out the lunch bag, and enjoyed our sandwiches, as we looked out over the islands. Sandy and Dave took the path to the right, and Sandy said it was quick and steep. They had their brakes on all the way.

The oldest church in NZ |
Steve and I took the path to the left, the "bush" walk, down. Halfway down, we had a choice between the high road or the low. We chose the low, which took us down to the beach. Because the tide was coming in, we had to clamber over some rocks to get back to the ferry with dry feet.
